Paying the piper

I briefly thought about shutting it down after 6, but my slacking yesterday guilted me into doing the whole thing.  I still haven't been able to get out earlier than about 8 am, which is not so good toward the end of the run.

Tomorrow: OFF!
Saturday:
Schedule 10 @ 10:30

Third day excuses

Muggy, even at 8 in the morning.

Tired from painting the downstairs both Monday and Tuesday.

Tired from intervals.

Not been sleeping well even though I have the week off and have been getting  to bed at 10!

Eh, that's enough.  Hopefully, I'll get a good night's rest and be hitting the half mile intervals tomorrow.

Tomorrow:

Schedule 2 @ 10:15
  3X1/2 in 4:15
  2 @ 10:15
800 recovery after each interval

Back to intervals

I'm on vacation this week (stay-cation), so I'm getting these runs done in the morning, but I'm going to have to set my alarm to get up earlier.  By the time I finished, it was in the 80's, and we all know that's too hot.  I'm sure that it will be a lot cooler at 6 or even 6:30 AM.

Tomorrow:
7 @ 10:15

Week 1

Ok, we'll see if I am too ambitious once again.  I figured after all that running the last 6 weeks, I could lower my every day pace from 10:30 to 10:15 and strive for a race pace of 9:24 for 13.1 miles.

Today's run wasn't too bad; I'm off this week so I am going to get my runs done in the morning.  I'll need to get up earlier than I did today however, because it was 80 by the time I finished.

Tomorrow:
Schedule 2 @ 10:15
  4X1/4 in 2
  2 @ 10:15
400 recovery after each interval @ 11:40

GENCON ruins everything

No alarm limits and no peek; JUST RUN!

So, I'm treating this like a recovery week due to laziness and I have spare weeks in the new training schedule and GENCON is this week and I'm going.  So, if I can get up early on Saturday, I'll throw down a 5 miler or so before heading out.  If not, then I probably won't run again this week.

Next week, however is a different matter as I'll hit my 5x/week schedule from last fall and start with 7 miles on Monday.

A man's got to know his limitations

And 13.1 miles is mine.  I am going to look into switching to the half marathon from the marathon on Nov 2nd.  I have no desire to put the kind of training into running a full marathon, and from this run, I don't know if my body can take it.

I was wiped out after 14 miles; I stopped at 10 and 12.14.  Just not interested or, from the looks of it, able to put in the kind of mileage that marathon training demands.

Perhaps I'll feel differently after a couple of years on my base running.  Maybe I'll try again next year, but as for this year, I have time to switch my focus to the half and concentrate on getting a PR if not below 2 hours.

I'll be switching the schedule around, so I don't have marching orders for those of you who have just quit with me.  How about 3 or 5 miles?

Another awesome run in the rain

About three and a half miles of this was in the rain, which was pretty heavy at times.  It. Was. Glorious!!

Now this brings to mind another down side to running on the hamster wheel: You can't run in the rain indoors.  Well, that's not exactly true.  I suppose, if you run in a gym or an area with a fire sprinkler system, you could always light off a torch and place it near the fire sensor.  I don't suggest this as the legal hassles can follow you for years.

Another, more practical way to run in the rain indoors is to hook up your garden hose to the outside spigot, attach a sprinkler to it, and place the sprinkler by the treadmill.  All you have to do then is turn on the water at the spigot and crank up the treadmill!

You will have to make sure that you cover the electronics part of your hamster wheel with plastic to protect it, and you will also have to make sure that your spouse doesn't get wind of your plan or it will come to a screeching halt.  Yeah, the latter one derailed me...

So, you may have noticed...I skipped yesterday.  No good excuse; I came home and decided to just lay down for a little bit and ended up dozing off.  When I awoke, I had missed my window to run.  I wasn't too broken up by it.

Today's run was supposed to happen yesterday, and I was supposed to run 7 miles @ 10:30 pace today.  For those of you looking for marching orders, there you go.

Tomorrow: 3 miles @ 10:30 pace (if I feel like it)

Temp is only 82

Unfortunately, so's the humidity!  And after getting soaking wet with nary a raindrop caught, I packed it in and ran indoors in a cool 72 degrees and unknown humidity.

Tomorrow:
1 mile warmup @ 10:30
4 miles @ 10:00 tempo run!
1 mile cooldown @ 10:30

A brand new week

I was going to run a 10K race this weekend, but I have decided to cut back on my running spending, so I'll just be doing the alternate 16 miles on Saturday.  I would much rather do the 6.2 mile race when I look at it like that...sigh.

But, I also know that I need a number of these longer runs in order to get my confidence up for the marathon, so I really am better off doing the 16 mile run.

Tomorrow: 7 miles @ 10:30 pace

And failure

I stopped at 6.74 miles and at 8.57 miles; I absolutely could not go any further at those two points.  I'm not sure what hitting 'the wall' feels like, but I'm pretty sure I smashed into it. Today, I was not the windshield.  I was the bug.

Monday: 6 miles @ 10:30 pace

Eight

I purposely started a bit slow so I wouldn't have a repeat of yesterday with the first half being somewhat faster than the second.  I felt the wheels fall off around 5 and felt them reattach on 7.  Not sure where they went, but I'm glad they came back.

Tomorrow: 10 miles @ 10:30 pace

The last six

And the devil's run is complete.  It would have been a bit too warm today if not for the wind, which provided cooling and refreshment.  Tomorrow and Saturday are going to be a real test; 8 then 10 miles at a 10:30 pace is the schedule for the rest of the week.

Tomorrow: 8 miles @ 10:30 pace
