Nice relaxing 20 mile ride

After those intervals yesterday, this is exactly what I needed. No pushing for time or trying to maintain a set speed; just ride.

and dodge traffic.

and get home before the thunderstorm hits.

Tomorrow, I'm going to hit a ride up north with a co-worker, weather permitting. We're only going 8-12 miles, but I think there'll be hills involved.

Cycling Intervals

So, I found a nice 1.5 mile loop that starts and ends at my house. I rode it the other day, so you all should be familiar with it.

Today, I rode with Brandy for the first loop, then I took advantage of her stopping for a jacket to do my first interval. I forgot to hit the watch to segment it off, so I had to look at the graph and figure it out.

The next segment, I rode with Brandy. Then, she was done, and I took off on my second interval. I remembered to hit the watch. You can see the rest of the workout above.

I added a new feature to my chart: MPH for the intervals. I hope to see that inching higher as I get more miles in.

Round and round

Here's the map:

https://connect.garmin.com/modern/activity/1381551783

I found a 1.5 mile loop right in my neighborhood. The great thing about it is that I only have to blow through one stop sign! This will be really good for doing interval training.

So, today, I tried to take it easy, although I wasn't real successful. I started faster than I ended and I was hoping to maintain the same pace throughout it. It is kind of funny that the southern most segment is where I slow down the most; there was a wicked wind coming out of the west today.

EDIT: Wrong date corrected.

Tempo ride

Although this was slower than my 10 mile ride last Wednesday (by .3 MPH), I'm still going to count this as a success given that I:

1. Just did 29 miles two days ago

2. Did not get run over

and
3. Am still able to count to three.

The route:

I don't think I'll do a tempo ride on this loop again; there were too many slow down spots for stop signs, traffic, and the like. Since I found out 135 isn't so bad for biking, I might try doing a loop down Honey Creek to Whiteland road to 135, back to Smokey Row and then home. I'll have to map it out and see how far that is.

Also, there was a bit of a westerly head wind from mile 4.77 to 6ish which accounted for my slow mile.

uuuuuuuuuuuuhhhhhhh

I was not prepared.

I was planning on going 25 miles, and I wouldn't have been prepared for that, but  I was even less prepared to go almost 29. I missed a turn somewhere south of Bargersville; the upside is that I found some hills.

The downside is...I hit those hills on the back end of the ride. But, if I want to drive, park, and ride, I know where to go now for some hill training. Or, if I want to do another long ride with hills. Or if I want to drive and look at hills. The possibilities are endless!

So, what's the plan? Well, I'm thinking of biking 4-5 times/week with a longer ride on Saturday. As I get faster, I'll work on extending my weekday rides further.

Longer, slower, warmer

I was shooting for an easy ride and actually consciously dialed it back a couple of times. I was pretty worn out with about 3.5 miles to go, so I still hit it a little hard going out.

Here's the map:

I went clockwise this time so I didn't have to cross over 44  to ride with traffic just to turn left at the next intersection to come back. This way I could just turn right onto 44 for the short distance that I had to be on it.

Longer, faster, warmer

Currently 88°F and sunny.

I pushed it this time. Here's the map:

It's mostly flat with slight rises, so I'm not getting any hill activity yet. I know there's some hills around here somewhere, although I may have to drive to get to them. yuck.

Back on the wagon

So, I had a World of Warcrack relapse for about 6 weeks. I'm out again, thankfully; I'm really disappointed in myself for falling back into it. I really think that if not for the grace of God, I would destroy my life with that game...and that is really sad.

On the upside, I got out for a nice ride on a beautiful day!
