Back to back riding

And a little faster at that. This was at 8 in the evening with Charles. It wasn't so bad temp-wise.

Too hot to ride

It was too hot to ride last week, but it's better this week. This is a retro post for yesterday's ride with Charles.

On another note, I preached yesterday at Grace Bible Church in the Adult Bible Institute. You can find a link to it here:

I hope that it challenges you to fulfill your ministry.

Getting back on the horse...uh, bike

Hair of the dog, man. Hair of the dog. My shoulder is a bit sore today, and I keep forgetting that I skinned up my knee when I kneel down, but I rode anyways. Charles was with me the last 9 miles.

Return from vacation and crash

I did some biking on my vacation with my wife, so nothing really challenging. We did bike around the Garden of the Gods park and Mitch park in Edmond, OK. I decided to ride from Mitch park back to our friend's house on La Belle Rue which was about 7 miles.

Today, I rode with Charles, and on the last lap, I crashed hard on the pavement doing about 14 mph. Nothing was broken that I could tell, not even my pride as my crash was pretty much unavoidable. I do have some nice road rash; and I'm sure I'll feel beat up tomorrow.

We ride again tomorrow at 330...

Sunny, warm, and windy

It was windy today. Not too much fun. But, it was also sunny and warm, so that made it better.

Cadence or Speed?

I guess we were supposed to be keeping a steady cadence. I was pushing for speed. After 6 miles at 15 mph, I gave in to Charles, downshifted and kept some sort of cadence. The only way I can see improvement is speed, so this is foreign territory.

Life catches up

Last week, life caught up to me. First it was working at the church, then threatening skies on Thursday, then actual rain on Friday, wedding on Saturday in Ohio, and returned on Sunday to have a party for two birthday boys (Trace - 24, and Grandpa - 95!!!!!).

So, back at it today with Charles.

Windy city...uh town...well, subdivision

Shorter ride with Charles. I had to wait for him at some points as the wind was playing havoc with our ride. He has a lot more surface area than I do, so I could cut through it easier.

Faster than last Monday

And with Charles too. We did this one in the evening, so it was much cooler.

Biking round and round with Brandy

There it is: 118.5 miles for the week at a 13.77 mph average. Not bad, not bad.

This ride came with a break at 4.5 miles. Here's the route:

The last 21 is the fastest

Hot, windy, and alone. But, this is how I wanted to end my century for the week, with the fastest ride for the week. I'm not sure what I'm doing for next week or tomorrow for that matter. I'm at 108 miles so far this week and feel like I'd like to hit 120.

Charles gets faster!

I did this ride with Charles, and it is evident that he is getting faster. Yay!

We had very little wind and the temp was 77°F. Warmer than I like, but still nice compared to the last couple of days.

Hot biking with Charles

I was only going to do 21, but Charles joined me after two laps (3 miles), so I decided to help him finish his 21. I'm up to 66 miles for the week, for those of you keeping score at home. The route is the same booooooooring 1.5 loop:

Oh, and it was HOT! 88°F with a 12 mph wind.

A better average

This was laps, in cooler weather, overcast, and without Charles. Yeah, a number of factors in my going faster. Here's the route:

The beginning of 5x21

My goal for this week is to ride 21 miles each weekday this week. We'll see how much I get in on Saturday, hopefully more than 9. I was also hoping for a 14 mph average, but I didn't make that. Well, Charles didn't make that; seems he thought it would be a good idea to do some stationary biking in his BDU's. He's in chafe city right now, population: him.

Faster 30

Charles and I found a new 10 mile loop, so we did it three times and logged 30 miles. Here it is if you're interested:

No Charles = Speedy Rusty

I know, I seem to be complaining about Charles, but I do really prefer to ride with him rather than without him. Anyways, tomorrow, we have another 30 mile ride planned. That will sew up a century tomorrow and then all my miles on Saturday will be bonus miles!

Back to the laps

Yesterday was a nice change of scenery. Today it was back to the 1.5 mile loop. I did 4.5 miles without Charles and the rest with him. I've got 55 miles on the week so far and feelin' fine.

30 faster than 25

Here is 30 miles done faster than my 25 miler last week. I did this with Charles, and we ended up doing a tour of Greenwood in order to get in the miles and not fall off the bike from boredom.

This was with Charles in the evening. We are planning on doing 30 miles starting at 7 tomorrow morning. Wish us luck!

A century for the week

There it is. Hopefully I can maintain this and more going into the summer. I did the first 6 miles with Brandy and the last 10.5 miles solo.

I'm hoping to get in at least 16 tomorrow to complete my century for the week.

Tuesday ride #1

I was going to go for 15-21 miles, but Charles wanted to ride this afternoon, so I just did 10.5 without him.

CIBA ride with Ruth

This was my second organized bike ride ever. It was sponsored by CIBA, and I did the 26 mile route with Brandy's friend Ruth, who is training for a bike ride in two weeks.

As you can see, Ruth wasn't very fast, which is fine. I wasn't in a hurry until the end when I decided to break away for a couple of miles and put the hammer down. I did this ride in support of Ruth, so I figured I'd better stick around her to help if she needed it.

The folks from CIBA were wonderful! Kim, Chris, and Mirren all stayed with us and were committed to "not leave anyone behind." I might actually look into doing another CIBA ride as this one was very enjoyable.
