Another start

And we're off and running!  The start of another beautiful training series brought to you by yours truly and the one time Montana Senior Grand Master 5K Champion, Mr. Kent!

Today is supposed to be the coolest of the weekdays this week, which is not a good thing.  Mid 70's, I can deal with; low 80's is pushing it.

Tomorrow:

Schedule 2 @ 11:00
  4X1/4 in 2 minutes
  2 @ 11:00
400 recovery after each interval

Splitting hairs

is better than splitting hares.  Just sayin'

And there we go, 30 miles for the week.  This was a tough run for a couple of reasons; the first and foremost reason was the burning hot sun and 78 degree weather.  Thankfully, there was a nice breeze when I ran in a southward.  The second reason was...it was the backend of thirty miles!  That's the most I've run this month and the most I've run since the week of Aug 5th.

Now for some rest then start the training schedule!

Monday: 7 miles @ 11:00 pace

Earlier than later, but still later

Set out on this run at about 8 pm.  It was cool, so that was nice.

I really wanted to get these last four days done to get my body used to running four days in a row.  I'm glad I didn't get lazy and blow one or more of them off.  Now, I get the reward of having Friday off and then:

Saturday: 8 miles @ 11:00 pace

Better late than never

Almost didn't get it in.  I started at 8:30 pm due to being called back into work.  Now it's 10:02 PM, which is 2 minutes after my bedtime!

Tomorrow: 4 miles @ 11:00 pace.

Stickin' to it

This wasn't as easy as I thought it would be, but I did it.  Now tomorrow might be a real challenge as it will be my third day in a row, projected high 70's, and 7 miles.  But I have to get it in!  I may decide to treadmill it, but I have to get it in.

Tomorrow: 7 miles @ 11:00 pace

Brand new week, unsullied by failure!

Here we are: a brand new week with a goal of 30 miles.  I plan on doing 7, 4, 7, 4, rest, 8 for the week.  This here is a good start, and the four tomorrow should be fairly easy.  It's the 7 on Wed that might be the tough one.

Tomorrow: 4 miles @ 11:00 pace

20 for the week

I was supposed to do 7 today, but...I didn't.  That makes 20 for the week, so next week, I'll be shooting for 30.  Yeah, a big jump, just what I was trying to avoid, but laziness will not be denied!

Monday: 7 @ 11:00 pace

Whoops, a little slip there

Yeah, I totally blew off the last two day's runs; that means that I get to run today and tomorrow for longer than if I didn't slack off.  That laziness is not paying off so well now...

The last 4 miles were in a light rain; on the one hand, I was glad for the slight cooling effect, and on the other, I wished that it would rain harder.  It wasn't as refreshing as a harder rain, but I reckon I'll take it.

Tomorrow: 7 @ 11:00 pace

How to get from the spokes into the wagon

So, if I work my way out towards the wheel, I can grab ahold of the wheel rim, get my fingers smashed, and hopefully snag the bandwagon bed or tailgate (I'm fairly certain I have a grip on a back wheel).  Here's my effort at moving outward on the spoke that I'm holding onto.

Yes, I realize I said 4 yesterday, but tired legs and time for 5 on Saturday added up to a short one today.

Tomorrow: 4 @ 11:00 pace

Two hands on the spokes!

I have finally gotten a grip on the spokes of the bandwagon wheel with my other hand.  Now, as I flail about, at least I have a better grip.

I'm shooting for 23 miles this week, and this run is a pretty good start.  If I run tomorrow, I'll do 4 and I'll only have to 12 more for the week - most likely 4 on Wed, Thu, and Sat.

If I don't run tomorrow (I'm having some dental work done in the morning), then I'll probably run 6 on Wed, 4 on Thu, and 6 on Sat.

I'm shooting for 32-35 miles next week, and the week after that, I start my five week training schedule...again.  Hopefully I will have climbed back on the bandwagon and have my seatbelt firmly in place so I don't fall off.

Tomorrow: 4 miles @ 11:00 pace
Or, Wed 6 miles @ 11:00 pace

Cooler weather is awesome

It was very nice today, mid 50's and sunny.  I need to make up a schedule for next week and also map out my five week training schedule from Nov 2nd.  I am going to decrease my pace so that I can run the schedule and target the Santa Hustle for a possible PR run.

I'll be looking to get out of the Monumental half with a decent time in the 2 hours teen minutes range.

Monday:  5 miles @ 10:30 pace

Still dragging my feet, holding onto the bandwagon

3 today, 6 tomorrow, or so I tell myself.  It was pretty nice today, though, 65 and sunny, but since I am lazy and I didn't want to do 6 today, I talked myself into saving my legs for tomorrow.

And I'm sure I'll bail on tomorrow.  Getting back on board the bandwagon is proving to be difficult.

Tomorrow: 6 miles @ 11:00 pace

Catching the bandwagon

I haven't caught it yet, but I have a weak grasp on one of the spokes of the wheels.  I'm not sure how good an idea it is to hold onto it, but that's all I can manage.  Flop, flop, flop, flop.  Hopefully tomorrow I can at least get ahold of another spoke so that I stop the twisting and just go 'round and 'round.

Oh, yeah, and IT'S STINKIN' HOT OUT.  Record heat for September...yaaaaay...grumble grumble...

Tomorrow: I don't know, 5? 7?  We'll see; it's supposed to be stinkin' hot again.

Should have did this Thursday

Yeah, even on the "recovery" week, I'm slackin'.  I meant to get 5 in on Thursday and 6 or 7 today, but laziness won out again.  I'm not sure if I'm going back to week 1 on Monday or just ramping up the days and mileage.

Now that I've thrown that option out there, I'll probably let my slacker side decide.  Yeah, probably just run 4 or 5 days at various mileage.  Shoot for 25 or 30 miles for the week.

Monday: 5 miles @ 10:15 or
7 @ 10:15

Falling off the bandwagon

Well, that was a not so refreshing week off...back aches, stomach cramps, more stomach cramps.  Not sure what is causing the intestinal distress but I hope it stops...now!

I still have slight cramps, but I also have some running to do, so I got out on this nice, sunny, 77 degree F day and meant to get in 3 miles in around 30 minutes.  Then, after about a quarter mile, I heard pounding footsteps behind me and a college age woman caught up to me and passed me.  She was out on a run.

Well, being the person I am, I thought I should see if I could keep up with her, and I did for the next two miles.  And, of course, if I start off at a pace, I need to finish at that pace, and I did!  So, thank you Andrea for dragging my sorry butt along with you; I'm sure you slowed down a bit for me.

I'll do a recovery week this week, then pick up my 5 week schedule at week one.  I'll have time to do weeks 3-5 again before my half on Nov. 2nd.

Tomorrow: Off
Thu: 5 miles
