Charles does intervals!
Here we are, first week of November, and it is 66°F out! It was so nice, I wore summer clothes!
Anyways, today I decided to start ramping up the intensity of the rides to get us in shape for...winter. Uh, yeah, anyways, so we did mile intervals. The first and third intervals math out at just under 17 mph; the middle one was 17.56 mph ave.
Not bad for a start.

64°F? I'll take it!
It was a beautiful sunny fall day here in central Indiana! Charles passed his PT test last Thursday with 10 minutes to spare!
Now we can do some serious training.

Another ride with Charles
This is Charles' last ride before his bike PT test on Thursday. After that, I'm going to start pushing him faster!

Fall is here!
A little windy, a little cool (63°F), and a little spitting of rain.

It's summer again!!
64°F is close enough for me! Short sleeves, short bike shorts, short socks! Summer gear!
As you can see, I didn't have Charles the boat anchor along for this ride, so I was able to drop the hammer and get it done. Whatever "it" was, anyways.

I bike alone...in the cold
Well, it wasn't that cold - 54°F. I wore fingered gloves, long sleeve shirt, windbreak shell, shorts, and a head band. The long sleeve shirt was a little much as a short sleeve one would do with the shell. Also, my hands got a touch warm and my feet a little cold, so I might double up on the socks next time.
This is part of the mini-game in biking in cooler weather - I try to manage my various clothing options to keep optimum temperature for all my body parts. It's a work in progress, however, I do have a running chart that I can work off of:
Of course, the chest and hands slots will be modified to account for the self generated wind chill, but it's a start.

Bike with Charles...again
We tried to keep up a good pace through 6.2 miles so Charles could see how his PT test might go. We did a pretty good job - made it in 24:24, and he only needs better than 28ish to pass.

1.5 miles alone
The first 10.5 miles were with Charles, then I decided to burn a lap. And my legs were burning!

Out for a Sunday ride
At least it was faster than yesterday. It was 70°F and sunny. Perfect!

Charles gets faster
https://connect.garmin.com/modern/activity/1411053601
Sure, it was longer than yesterday, but it was also faster! We didn't have an awful headwind while going south this time; that helped a lot!

Alone, accompanied, alone
I didn't break it out, but you can see at the link:
https://connect.garmin.com/modern/activity/1409769721
I rode the first six miles by myself waiting for Charles, then we did 7.5 miles together and finally, I did a lap by myself again. There was a fierce south wind, so heading out was slogville, population me and Charles, but coming back, we felt like Superman! So, I guess it was worth it...until the wind hit us in the face at the turn headed south.

Sloggin' it around the neighborhood
Mostly did the 1.5 mile lap, but added in some other laps just for variety.

Nice and cool out, I was glad I wore a long sleeve shirt instead of a short sleeve one. It was about 55°F.

Charles' second ride of the season
We meant to go longer, but Charles had to cut it short to take care of something at home.

Bike with Brandy
Just a couple of lazy miles around the neighborhood. Too bad I wasn't motivated like this in the spring; Brandy would have been much faster.

A ladder of sorts
If you look at the workout:

you'll see that each mile was faster with the fifth mile being the fastest. I did the last four miles at an easy pace.

Bike with Charles
I went on this ride with my neighbor Charles. I found out on the ride that this was his first of the year. So...we went a little slower and shorter than I planned, but it's all good. I had a good time on a nice relaxing ride on a very nice day!

Bike with Mike
Almost 400 feet of elevation change. That'll put some strain on your legs if you're used to less than 100 ft/ride.
Here's the map:
https://connect.garmin.com/modern/activity/1386764005
It was a nice crisp morning when Mike and I set out. From the parking lot, it was a steady downhill ride until we got to Geist reservoir, then there were some up and down hills, with flat respites. We turned around just before 9 miles and retraced our ride a bit slower coming back.
This ride puts me at 76.42 miles for the week, an increase of 14.55 miles or 23.52%.

Nice relaxing 20 mile ride
After those intervals yesterday, this is exactly what I needed. No pushing for time or trying to maintain a set speed; just ride.
and dodge traffic.
and get home before the thunderstorm hits.
Tomorrow, I'm going to hit a ride up north with a co-worker, weather permitting. We're only going 8-12 miles, but I think there'll be hills involved.

Cycling Intervals
So, I found a nice 1.5 mile loop that starts and ends at my house. I rode it the other day, so you all should be familiar with it.
Today, I rode with Brandy for the first loop, then I took advantage of her stopping for a jacket to do my first interval. I forgot to hit the watch to segment it off, so I had to look at the graph and figure it out.
The next segment, I rode with Brandy. Then, she was done, and I took off on my second interval. I remembered to hit the watch. You can see the rest of the workout above.
I added a new feature to my chart: MPH for the intervals. I hope to see that inching higher as I get more miles in.
