And it was faster than yesterday. I was able to get out earlier (10:30 AM or so) and that made a difference. Also, the weather was a nice overcast 68 degrees; it was misty rain downtown, but unfortunately, not in my area.

First of the triple 6
or "How I ran the devil's number in three days"
Today, tomorrow, and the next day are all 6 mile runs, and there you go, Mr. Schedule is evil. Not the scheduler or the schedule maker, just Mr. Schedule.
Anyways, no recovery period for the marathon trainee; I'm back at it and banking 40 miles this week. All of the rest of my runs this week are at a 10:30 pace; no long run pacing...sad face.

Belated post
I forgot to post this yesterday, so while the date of the post is yesterday, and the run is dated for yesterday, I am actually writing this and posting this on Monday. So much for my ability to go back in time.
Monday: Off

All running and no recipies make Rusty a dull boy
Tonight, I made broiled flounder on a bed of multi-grain rice with mango avocado salsa; it was delicious enough that I decided to share it with you all.
The Fish:
I used flounder, but almost any white fish will do - tilapia, swordfish, even orange roughy. I seasoned the fillets with Old Bay seasoning and broiled them at 500 degrees F for about 4 minutes (they were very thin).
The Rice:
I used Target's brand of multi-grain rice, which had a little of everything in it: wild and brown rice, quinoa, bulgar wheat, etc. Any rice will do, but the nutty texture of the multi-grain really added a lot to the dish. I cooked the rice according to the package directions.
The Salsa:
1 mango, firm and ripe, diced into 1/2 inch cubes
1 avocado, firm and almost ripe, diced into 1/2 inch cubes
1 green onion, chopped (I used only the dark green part)
1 half inch piece of ginger, minced
1 half red bell pepper, diced into quarter inch cubes
1 quarter cup sliced almonds
1 tsp cider vinegar
Cilantro to taste
Salt to taste
1 tbsp Corn syrup to add sweetness if necessary
Mix all ingredients. Note, there wasn't any standing liquid in my mixed batch; your results may vary.
The Presentation:
Make a bed of rice, lay the fish gently on the rice, and spoon the salsa over the fish. Garnish with cilantro if desired. Eat.

Another race, another land speed record for humans with my DNA match
After I got home from the race, it was such a nice day that I had to get out for a run. I set my pace alarms for the recovery run at 10:10 and 10:50 and, as you can see, didn't obey the watch.
For the race, I set my pace alarms at 8:25 and 9:05 (8:45 pace) and did obey the watch, well, except for the last mile. At the (very) end of the race, I was cruising at a 4:37 pace! In fact, the last .06, I averaged a 5:02 min pace! Now, that is running!
I had to thank two guys that were ahead of me the entire race until I shot past them at the end. I knew if I could keep them close, I might be able to beat them with my kick, and sure enough, I did. I think I passed 4 or 5 people in the last tenth. 8~P
As soon as the results are posted, I'll follow up with placement and the such. Or I should say, whenever I get around to it, I'll look up the results and probably just post them on my next run...
Tomorrow (Sunday, what is this Mr. Schedule???): 4 miles @ 10:15 pace
UPDATE: Results are in!
Age group (45-49): 7/10
Overall: 69/161 Top half!

Mixing it up
My original plan was to ride for an hour and see how far I got; unfortunately, a nail ended that dream. I suppose it's just as well as I could use the rest for this Saturday's 5K.
Tomorrow: nothing
Saturday: 3.1 miles @ 9ish pace

Everything is much better outside
when it's not stinkin' hot, that is. (Rusty's definition of stinkin' hot: anything over 80 degrees F)
There was a nice cool, stiff breeze coming out of the north east, so that made it much nicer to run north and east. Otherwise, it was just nice to be outside enjoying the run.
I may blow off tomorrow's run in addition to Friday's in order to rest up for Saturday, although, I did shake off the tired legs for today's run. I'll just see how everything is feeling tomorrow.
